Gas Compliance Certificates in New Farm

Every job is done by a licensed plumber, and gas work always sits with a licensed gasfitter. We sign off systems in weatherboard houses around Moray Street and in the art deco walk-ups alike, and the paperwork follows every install.

What a Gas System Compliance Certificate Is
A gas system compliance certificate puts the licence holder's signature on the fact that a completed gas job meets the state's gas rules. The owner gets it straight after the work finishes.
The word "completed" matters. New installs and changes to existing systems earn one; repairs and routine services don't.
A defect notice is the other paper in the stack. A gasfitter who finds a safety fault mid-job hands the owner or operator a written notice describing the concern. Fixing the fault through gas work straight away means no notice is needed.
Only a licensed gasfitter signs off on a gas system, its pipework and its connections. Ask to sight the gas work licence before anyone touches a line, and our gas fitting page lists what that covers.

Where to Ask for a Copy
Start with the file of documents kept from the original job, and ask the gasfitter who handled it first. That person issued the certificate, so the records stay with them.
Three places turn up a copy when the job file has gone missing:
- the gasfitter who handled the work, whose records name every job signed off
- a Queensland government website that stores certificates and finds them by street address
- the invoice folder, where a copy often sits beside the receipt

Who Gets Which Copy of the Certificate
Ownership decides who holds what. The system's owner keeps the original, which a state government website issues electronically once the gas work wraps.
Where fuel gas arrives through mains, the company running that network also receives a copy inside 5 days of the work finishing. For rentals, the certificate still belongs to the owner rather than the tenant, and property managers we deal with usually ask us to lodge it and file a copy with the owner's records.
One recent change is worth knowing. Since July 2025, most gas set-ups no longer carry a physical plate at the meter, so the certificate itself now carries the record.

Selling, Buying or Renting With Gas Appliances
One certificate records one event: the day the gas work finished. Beyond that record, the state advises a licensed gasfitter inspect and service appliances like cookers and barbecues at set intervals, installed and used to the maker's instructions.
Between visits, the owner's part stays visual only:
- watch the gas system for rusting, decay or damage
- keep anything flammable well away from heaters and cookers
- tie cylinders down out of reach of flames and heat, and close the valve whenever a bottle sits idle, empty ones included
Rentals add a duty. Queensland's tenancy law makes the owner or manager hand the property over in good condition and hold it there through the whole tenancy. At the last census, flats and apartments made up the bulk of homes on this peninsula, so that duty lands on landlords far more than owner-occupiers.
In Queensland rentals, a gas leak and a failed supply both count as urgent repairs under the tenancy Act, and so does a failed essential appliance. The safety steps come first, and our gas leak repairs page runs through them.
Selling or renting changes none of this. No Queensland rule we follow asks for a gas certificate to sell a home or lease one out. Treat the paperwork as a record of the work, not a stamp for a contract.
How the Certification Visit Runs
- 1

Describe the problem
Phone (07) 3524 7163 or fill in the form with what you're seeing in New Farm. The more we know, the better we can prepare.
- 2

Test and certify on site
We pressure-test the line, check each connection and appliance against the maker's specs, and note the readings on site. The gasfitter prepares the certificate before leaving your place.
- 3

Agree on the price
A fixed quote comes before any work starts: flat-rate pricing, no hidden fees, and your go-ahead first.
- 4

Pay on completion
Card or EFTPOS on site when everything's working, or ask us about Fix now, pay later. Adding an appliance changes the supply maths first, and our gas cooktop installation page covers those checks.

Gas Certificate Questions
Call (07) 3524 7163What is a gas compliance certificate?
It's the licence holder's sign-off that finished gas work meets Queensland's gas rules. The licensed gasfitter who handled the job hands it to the owner straight after the work finishes.
Does every gas job end with a compliance certificate?
No, a certificate only follows a new gas install or a change to an existing system. A gasfitter who spots a safety fault issues a defect notice instead, unless the fault is fixed straight away through gas work.
Who gets a copy of the gas compliance certificate for a New Farm home?
The owner gets the original, issued through a state government website once the gas job wraps. Where gas comes through mains, the network company also receives a copy inside 5 days of finishing.
How long does a gas compliance certificate last?
The record carries no expiry date. Fresh paperwork only follows new gas work, an install or an alteration, and a fixed quote sets that price before anything starts. The state government also advises a licensed gasfitter inspects and services appliances at regular intervals.
Are gas leaks emergency repairs for New Farm renters?
Yes, a gas leak and a gas supply failure both count as urgent repairs in Queensland tenancy law. An appliance that stops providing heating, cooking or hot water sits on the same list.
